Poor Mr Frodo

As I type this, my little man is at the vets. First off, I’d like to say, I know that you’re not supposed to give dogs cooked bones, and I usually don’t give them to Frodo, but my Mum often gives them to her dog, and I often feel sorry for Frodo, so I let him have one on Friday night. Well, yes, that was a big mistake. Around midnight, he threw up, and I could tell he wasn’t feeling the best, he was sooky-er then normal. He couldn’t get comfortable. I ended up waking my Mum up at 3am, and she said, wait and see how he is in the morning. I didn’t sleep, I just kept him company, held him when he wanted to cuddle and cleaned up after he vomited. It wasn’t until about 7:30am, when he got up to go outside, that I freaked out a little more. By the time I followed him outside, he was sitting at the back of the garden, hiding amoung the plants. Que me freaking out and waking up my parents to say basically, we are going to an emergency vet NOW.

We got to the vet, and it was what I had suspected, he had a bone fragment caught somewhere in his stomach. He was rushed in for emergency surgery straight away. It all went well, the bone fragment was retrieved, it had made his intestines swell up nearly double in size and fill with gas. I went and visited him today, he’s a lot happier, still in pain, but it seemed more of a “I just had surgery” kind of pain. Hopefully, if all goes well, he can come home tomorrow or the next day.

I love Frodo more then words, I look at him and it’s like my heart swells. I honestly believe that what I feel for him, is what a parent feels for their child. He has been my rock through so many emotional times, and he is my best friend. I honestly don’t know how I’d cope without him. Thankfully, apart from this mishap and a couple of minor issues, he’s a very healthy little man of 9. He turns 10 on July 17th!

Thank you for all the twitter/facebook love. It’s been much appreciated. I’m so thankful to have my parents support in this too, as the operation will cost about $2000. I have some money saved for things like this, but not THAT much. Needless to say, i’m glad I decided not to go to New York FFFW! I’ll be sure to keep you updated.
