OOTD – Pink & Neon Orange

July 10, 2012

I know i’ve said this before, but if you’d have told me 5 years ago, that I would be wearing pink and orange, without any black, I would have laughed at you and called you crazy. One thing that self accaptance and blogging has helped me do, is to not ‘dress for my size’ or to make myself look slimmer. Sure, I always like to look my best, but I’m fat, wearing black may create the illusion of looking slimmer, but I’m still going to be fat, so I am going to dress in what I want too, in what colour I choose.

While there is still so many fashions, trends, labels I’d LOVE to have available in my size, I feel lucky that there ARE options these days. It’s no longer all muumuu’s and baggy black clothing. We have body hugging, curve embracing, stomach baring neon clothes. Places like ASOS, Domino Dollhouse, Cult of California & Carmakoma. Australia is still somewhat behind in the movement, but luckily so many things are avilable online these days.

I’d been eyeing this dress for awhile before snagging it up in the sale, the only thing that put me off was the spaghetti straps. I hate wearing strapless bras, and while I do have small boobs  could get away without wearing a bra, I don’t like leaving the house without one. Thank heavens for cardigans and such!

Yes, it quite eye-bleedingly neon in real life. I LOVE it! 😀

Wow, you look awesome. Your hair goes perfectly with the orange too. This is a great look on you. I know I like most of your looks but I really like this. So summery.

  • I love this outfit! Orange and pink is such a fun combination. And I agree with Moe, your hair matches the outfit really well. 🙂

  • I just got this too! It really is eye-meltingly neon which I didn’t expect, but have accepted. Partly because I was like “Natalie would love this dress so why can’t I!”

  • Nat, I absolutely LOVE the way you wear colour so beautifully. You’re totally inspiring me to jump out of my little black rut!

  • Saundra McKenzie

Love the outfit but LOVE the dress. It all looks so good on you.

  • Thank you!!

  • Yay! I like when I inspire people! It’s funny, I would never believe i’d wear this years ago! Last year my NYresolution was to ‘wear more colour’ and I was sort of anxious the first time I didn’t wear any black. Now I embrace it!

  • It was brighter then I expected too, but it kind of made me love it more! I always say wear what you are comfortable in, and for me, I wear this and can’t help but smile cause it is so bright and fun!

  • Thank you! I love pink and orange so much I had my hair that colour too, it was fun! I often try and match my hair with my outfits and I find whenever I have pink hair, I don’t wear red as much as it clashes. It’s probably a little silly, but I can’t seem to help it.

  • Thank you! And the funny thing is, it’s winter here! It was around 18°c (64.4°f), but nice and sunny.

  • Carla

I LOVE this – I’m like you, I either love BRIGHT BRIGHT BRIGHTS or being all in black haha! (Please take me shopping when I land in Sydney? :D) xxxxx

  • You’re welcome! I totally did the same thing when I had pink hair, and even when just the tips were pink. As much as I miss having pink tips, one benefit of “normal”-colored hair is that I can wear all the red I want, which is kinda nice because I like red.

You look gorgeous! This is a far cry from the lass who left a comment on my blog two years ago telling me that she didn’t know how to wear bright colours (other than as an accent to black). Well done you!

  • YES! I would love to meet you and we would have an awesome time shopping!

  • I KNOW RIGHT! I used to be so intimidated by colour and now BAM, full on neon! You inspired me to think outside the black box and i’m so thankful!

  • These colours are so fantastic on you! Love this look, too fun!

  • Kiri Couch

“Sure, I always like to look my best, but I’m fat, wearing black may create the illusion of looking slimmer, but I’m still going to be fat, so I am going to dress in what I want too, in what colour I choose.”

WORD. I might steal this and make this my Facebook status message. 🙂
