Hair & Beauty

A rainbow of hair colours!

Saying that I’m addicted to dying my hair would probably be right. If I knew  that my hair wouldn’t fall out, I’d probably dye it a new colour every other week!

I had my first experience with hair dye when I was in year 7. My mother took me and got blonde slices put in the front of my naturally mousey brown hair. I wanted to look like Ginger Spice. From then on, I was hooked. By the end of year 10, my hair was long, black with on top & bright pink underneath.

Over the years, I think I’ve tried pretty much every colour. Not to mention some interesting colour combinations. My favourite being pink&orange, as well as blue&green. I always tend to go back to pink though.

I remember when I was younger, watching Lady Lovely Locks & Rainbow Brite, how I was amazed at the colourful hair. I don’t think it was until later on whilst watching Gwen Stefani in the No Doubt filmclip for ‘Ex-Girlfriend’ that I decided I wanted a head full of flowing pink locks!

Last year I took the plunge and got extensions! Long flowing pretty pink hair! I received lots of compliments! I’m now currently trying to grow my hair out. It’s hard when I used to bleach my hair so often, but I’ve promised myself I shall only be bleaching my roots. So far my hair is loving not being harassed and is growing quite steadily.

I’ve had a few questions about my hair, so I thought I’d answer a few. Feel free to ask me any questions in the comments!

What hair dye do you use?
Generally for the bright colours I use Fudge Paintbox. It’s the most readily available here in Australia. The aqua I use is Manic Panic Amplified Atomic Turquoise, but as it’s around $30 here in Australia, I use that sparingly. I often mix colours to make my own unique shade.

How do you get the colour so vibrant?
I bleach my hair to  a blonde colour. My hair has a lot of red pigment in it, so it’s generally a light orange colour. I put the fudge hair colour on and leave it… for hours. I generally only wash my hair 3 times a week, and I rinse it it cool water. When it fades, I sometimes mix a little batch of colour with my conditioner & leave it whilst I enjoy my shower.

How do you mix the colours to make the patterns in your hair?
This is the question I get asked the most, and honestly, it’s a little hard to answer. Mostly, I just use a tint brush and go for it. The multi colour my hair is now was just done by bleaching my roots, which I then put aqua on and spread it down to blend in with the pink already dyed on the ends. With some of the other blends I done, such as the pink – orange – yellow fade, I just put my hair up in sections of which I desired coloured.
