Melbourne Fashion Week Plus – Show One

This week I’m bringing you posts every day from Melbourne Fashion Week Plus! There were 4 runway events split over 3 days, and I’ll be sharing each show in one post. Does that make sense? I haven’t decided what the 5th post will be. It might be about the panels, or some behind the scenes shots, or about the shenanigans we all got up to. I also have outfit photos to share! Let me know if YOU have a preference.

So without further ado, here are some pictures and my thoughts on the first MFW+ show for you!

State of Liberty

Wowza, what can I say? This was a way to start the show off with a bang. I was in awe of everything and would happily welcome every item shown into my wardrobe. State of Liberty was designed with curves in mind by a person named Samantha who has a hell of a lot of knowledge about costuming. It really does show in the cuts of these garments and fabric choices. Find the range HERE.

Voluptua

It was nice to see a somewhat alternative collection on the runway. It certainly caught the attention of my inner teenage goth. This collection is by Leah Shreader, a student in her 3rd and final year of the Bachelor Degree of Fashion Design. Check out her blog HERE for a really amazing behind the scenes look at the design & construction process. You can also find Voluptua on Facebook.

Courtney ZOH

Courtney makes a seriously amazing array of turbans, scarves, headpieces & clothing inspired by travels, architecture and hip-hop, to name a few. While not my fashion, I certainly found it visually appealing and it made me wish I could pull off a turban. I’ll be keeping an eye on her in the future as I’m tempted to try to incorporate some items into my wardrobe. I also met her parents and they were sooo excited about the event! Find her on her website, facebook & Instagram.

Nyata

Whilst I’m sad to say I don’t own anything from Nyata, they have been a favourite of mine for awhile now, and I wasn’t disappointed at all with their showing. I’m usually drawn to their more colourful options, but this time I’m ALL OVER the black and white prints. Also the cut of the Cinta skirt! Nyata means ‘Real’ in Indonesian and is the brain child of Amber Gwynn, a Curve model for Bella Management and all round talented lady! Find Nyata online at facebook, Instagram and their online store.

Estelle Clothing

Estelle was a bit hit and miss for me, I think if I had a traditional job in an office environment I would have been drawn to more of their pieces. However, the ones that caught my eye, I really loved! The wrap skirt in a what looked like a suede material basically turned me into that heart eyed emoji and I really loved the cut & prints of their dresses. The paisley off the shoulder number was something I never knew I needed! Estella is stocked in selected Myer stores (def going to try some of these on, maybe an ‘In the dressing room post’?) but you can find them online. Be sure to follow them on Facebook & Instagram.

Sadly, a lot of my photos didn’t turn out very good, so for these posts, I’ve used photos by the event photographer Jessie Obialor. I will be posting the photos I took to a facebook album later in the week.

Which outfit is your favourite?
