My day at Sea World Australia #xlinqld
If you follow me on social media you’d know that I recently took a trip to Surfers Paradise (Queensland) for a week away with family. There has been a lot going on in my life at the moment especially when it comes to my family. My Mum organised for herself, my Dad, my sister and I, to have a week away, spend some time bonding and creating memories. We all got to pick a ‘thing’ we wanted to do and my sister Larnies choice was Sea World.
Larnie had never actually seen a dolphin before! Mind blown! She was lucky and got to have her photo taken with a dolphin! I guess I’ve been lucky previously, I’ve had the chance to see them in the wild numerous times. Including once when I was just swimming in the sea and some swam right by!
Initially, I admit, I was a bit wary about going to Sea World. I’ve heard so much negative stuff about the US franchise that I was a bit worried about this one. After a bit of research though I found out that they are in NO WAY connected to the US Seaworld. They don’t have whales at all, though they do offer whale watching cruises where you have the chance to see them in the wild. They seem to be very dedicated to research and rescue of all marine animals.
We got in mid-morning to make it to the Affinity Dolphin display and it did not disappoint! Those dolphins can fly! You don’t really think about how much power they have until you see them propel themselves out of the water and flip in the air.
We walked around and saw some of the other exhibits. The underwater walk-through area at Shark Bay was amazing. I’d LOVE to swim with sharks one day! I could have sat down there and just watched them all day.
I have to say though that my favourite by far was the Polar Bears! I’d never seen Polar Bears in person before (that I can remember) and these are the only Polar Bears in Australia. They are HUGE! I was in the underwater viewing area right next to one and I felt SO tiny!
We were apparently very lucky because not one, but two of them were up and about. They tend to sleep a lot, so getting to see them swim and roll around was AMAZING! They also have the choice to come and go from the exhibit as they please, which I think is great.
All in all, I ended up having an amazing day. Well, except for the seagulls, they were crazy! I’ve added a gallery below with a few more photos from the day!
