The day I met Five!

blog-001

So, last friday night (now I want to start singing Katy Perry) the above happened. I met Five! Well, four of the remaining members of Five. I’ve not been shy of my love of shy, i’ve written a post about them before here, and my Five shirt has made an appearance on the blog not once, but twice.

I’ve been a Five fan since 1997, basically since I was around 12 years old. I remember seeing them on the Smash Hits Poll Winners Party and just kind of falling in love. They really became a huge part of my life and helped me get through so many of those ‘teen dramas’. blog-002

When the Big Reunion was announced, I even considered flying to the UK, but it really was too expensive. I sat back, and crossed my fingers that they’d somehow make it back to Australia. When the Aussie tour was announced, I may have screamed very excitedly, and rang my friend Natalie, who I went with to the previous Five concert with many many years ago.blog-003

I managed to snap up VIP ‘meet & great’ tickets, and tried to push the fact that I was meeting Five to the back of my head. Come Friday morning, I was nervous. I wasn’t sure how I would re-act. My inner 13 year old kept taking over, and that is never pretty. I was scared I might scream, or cry, or get so excited I’d pee myself. I am happy to announce, I did none of those things. I kind of went into auto pilot mode and it still seems like it was a dream.

Abs in really funny! He came up and stood in the line in front of us and proceeded to talk to Natalie and I “They haven’t even noticed i’m not there, I’ll just stand here with you and see how long it takes. Look, they still haven’t realised” at which point he snuck back over.

When it was my turn, I went over and said “I’ll come to you first, just so you don’t feel left out” and he gave me a huge hug and said “Now thats love” and turned to the guys and said “This is love lads!“. Next I moved to Ritchie, and he read my shirt and giggled, and gave me a hug. Dude is ripped, like seriously. Then Sean, who is soooo nice! Abs had signed on Seans picture, and Sean was like “Abs has signed on me, that means I have to sign on Abs, is that okay? You’re not upset?”. I remember saying “not at all” but all my brain was really thinking was “I’m surrounded by Five, I’m surrounded by Five”. Scott was trying to do tricks with his Sharpie.

We were excited to learn that we were saved an area near the front of stage! To put it simply, the show was amazing! Every time they started doing a choreographed dance, the crowd went wild. It was a little strange to have Abs & Scott do J’s raps, but I think it worked pretty well.

They sung a mix of all the old hits, I can’t say what my highlight was. I loved it all. I think some of the favourites were Until the time is through and When the lights go out. I also loved, loved, loved seeing them perform Lay all your lovin on me.

It still feels a little surreal, that over 10+ years I finally got to meet the man teenage me planned to marry a band that really did play a huge part of my life. Certainly a day to remember!

Oh, and if you’re wondering.
